The Best Sugar Free Chocolate Brownies

These brownies have the same great taste as the other kind of brownies.

However, this brownie recipe has no added sugar in it.

Did you try my Keto Low Carb Fudgy Brownie recipe?

That keto brownie recipe is made with almond flour and coconut oil.
This recipe is more like a basic brownie recipe but, with sugar free alternatives.

I am always looking for the perfect way to store my food. Luckily, I found these genius ideas for food storage which may also be helpful for you!

This recipe is for anyone asking how do you make sugar free brownies from scratch.

As you may suspect, you make sugar free brownies just like you would make regular sugared brownies. However, you substitute sugar free alternatives when needed.

For this recipe you will need unsweetened cocoa powder.

When choosing your unsweetened cocoa powder, make sure that the cocoa does not have sugar added to it. Your Unsweetened cocoa powder should be cocoa mix and not a prepackaged chocolate beverage (such as chocolate milk) beverage.

Just in case you were wondering what ingredient makes brownies fudgy, here is an easy answer.

Fudgy brownies is really about the chocolate that is added.
So, in addition to the unsweetened cocoa powder, this recipe calls for adding sugar free chocolate chips too!

This brownie recipe also calls for sugar alternatives to be used in place of sugar.

Please make sure that you are using a granular sugar alternative that measures 1:1 with sugar. It is important to keep the balance of dry to wet ingredients to make this recipe a success. You can read the label on the sugar alternative that you choose to use to make sure that you are using the correct one.

Here are some tips for making brownies.

I just mentioned that you should use a granular sugar alternative that measures 1:1 with sugar. Also, make sure that the sugar alternative can be baked with.

Here are some more helpful tips.

  1. I use Parchment Paper that overhangs the sides of my brownie baking pan. This allows me to easily remove the brownies from the pan (less mess!!) for cutting.
  2. For a more 'cake-like' brownie, omit the chocolate chips and bake your brownies for a longer time. Then allow them to cool in the pan. Even better, you can place the chocolate chips on top of the warm brownies and allow them to melt! YUM!
  3. Use fresh ingredients in your brownies batter. This is essential especially with your dry ingredients as expired ingredients can, and most likely will, affect your brownies results 🙁 .
  4. Also, this recipe works best when you do not use a mixer and rather mix the batter by hand instead. This is because you do not want to over-mix this as doing so could ruin that density that makes these brownies so fudge-like.

How to make keto or low carb brownies.

Besides using a low carb sugar alternative and low carb and sugar free chocolate chips try swapping out your flour. You can find keto and low carb all purpose flour alternatives here (check the label on the package to see if you will need a binder and if the flour alternative measures 1:1 with all purpose flour) .

How to make the best sugar free brownies

Bake these brownies in a 9" baking pan. Please note that using another sized pan may affect your baking time.

Here is how to make these brownies.

  • Preheat your oven to 325 and prep a square pan for nonstick. I use
Parchment Paper that overhangs the sides of the pan.
  • In a medium mixing bowl, use a fork or whisk to mix together your flour and baking powder. Add the unsweetened cocoa powder and mix gently.
  • Next, in a large mixing bowl,
mix together the sugar alternative with the melted butter until well blended.
  • For the next step we will add the dry ingredients from the first bowl to the large mixing bowl. Do this by adding half of the dry ingredients at a time, stirring gently between additions.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, stirring gently between additions, and then the vanilla.
  • Use a rubber spatula to fold in your chocolate chips.
  • Evenly spread the batter into your pan. Bake for 20- 25 minutes. Using the toothpick method of checking for readiness will possibly result in a false positive because of the chocolate chips. Allow your brownies to to cool prior to cutting into squares. Tip: use the overhanging parchment paper to remove the brownies from the pan in order to cut them.

Is brown sugar or caster sugar better for brownies? ›

If you were to only use one type, I would recommend the granulated caster sugar. I like to smack my pan down on a firm surface the moment I pull it out from the oven after baking. What happens if you use brown sugar instead of caster sugar? ›

The sweetness level will be the same, but the brown sugar may change the texture of your baked goods. You'll likely notice a more robust flavor, and the finished baked goods' color may also be darker.

Do you put brownies in fridge after baking? ›

During the summer and in hotter climates, brownies might not last as long when stored at room temperature. If you're worried about the heat affecting the delicious taste of your brownies, we recommend storing them in the refrigerator instead. Storing brownies in the fridge can keep them fresh for up to two weeks.

Which sugar is best for brownies? ›

Using caster sugar in brownies also helps to get a super crinkly top. Caster sugar has a smaller grain size than granulated sugar, so it dissolves better in the egg mixture, to give that nice crinkly top. If you only have granulated sugar on hand it will still work fine particularly if you are in the US.
